Open Houses for Prospective Members

Prospective members are invited to attend an Open House to learn more about Club members’ work in support of advocacy and education for women and girls, their work as stewards of one of Vancouver’s finest heritage buildings, and to hear about programs, events, and opportunities for fellowship. These Open Houses are a welcoming and informative introduction to our Club and house. They are free and include short talks by Club members and refreshments. Prospective members are welcome to bring their partners. Open Houses are held regularly through the year. We warmly invite you to our next Open House:

The University Women’s Club of Vancouver is a club for women with degrees or two years of post secondary education from accredited universities and colleges. Our current membership represents graduates from over 100 universities worldwide. Members of the Club enjoy many benefits, including: mentoring and networking; social activities; enrichment and inspiration through workshops, conferences, lectures and guest speakers; advocacy; committees and interest groups; and use of our beautiful heritage house.

The Reception is free and includes refreshments as well as a brief introduction to our club and house. This event is open to women graduates of all universities and colleges – please feel free to forward this invitation to your friends and colleagues. Eligibility & How to Join

There are two categories of membership:

An Active Member is a woman who holds a degree or the equivalent from a university with Canadian or international accreditation anywhere in the world.

An Associate Member is a woman who has a professional designation and/or two years of post-secondary education from a recognized educational institution or has a significant and substantial record of community service related to the purposes of the University Women's Club of Vancouver.

There is a one-time entrance fee of $367.50 including GST. The annual dues are payable on February 1 each year. Dues are pro-rated for new members who join after after February. Reduced membership dues are available for Active or Associate members under the age of 30.

Applications for membership should be submitted with a completed application form, proof of qualifications, and full payment of the entrance fee and annual dues. Members of the Club enjoy many benefits, including:

  • Enrichment & Inspiration Workshops, conferences, lectures and guest speaker engagements are held regularly at the Club, covering an array of topics of interest to our members.
  • Fellowship & Friendship Social activities are held throughout the year, giving members a chance to meet and mingle with one another.
  • Mentoring & Networking Our members come from varied backgrounds and interests. Some women are retired while others are just beginning their careers. We are entrepreneurs, business owners, artists, public servants, professionals in other fields, and volunteers. No matter what stage your career or life is at, you are bound to meet someone who will inspire and support your endeavours.
  • Advocacy Our members carry out our mandate through the advocacy work they do in the community.
  • Committee Activities & Interest Groups We have a wide range of Committees and Interest Groups to engage our members.
  • Newsletter Members are kept up to date with what's happening at Hycroft through our Club newsletter Hycroft Happenings.
  • Library We have a small library of current fiction and works on women's issues exclusively for the use of our members.
  • Meeting rooms Members are welcome to rent meeting rooms to host their own business meetings and functions.
  • Rental privileges We have special rental rates and other privileges available exclusively to our members.

There are a number of Interest Groups at the UWCV for members to join. Our current Interest Groups include a book group, two painters groups, a writers group, a genealogy group and several bridge groups as well as groups who meet to learn about investments, financial planning, tai chi, and music. The Busy Gourmet group and the Hycroft Choir have been active for more than 20 years.


Committees

The Club Committees enact our mandate and also oversee governance of our organization and maintenance of our property. Through Committee activities our members contribute significantly to the wider community and also enjoy the fellowship of working together. Click here to learn more about the work we do.

Club Services

Members have access to a Members' Lounge, food services, and special rates on house and room rentals.

  • Members' Lounge: The wood paneled Oak Room is the designated Members' Lounge. It is available for members to read the daily newspapers, newsletters from other CFUW clubs, or simply to chat and make friends with other members. Fresh coffee and tea are always available in the lounge.
  • Food Services: Lunches and dinners are available to members and their guests. Special catered luncheons, teas and dinners open to members are announced in the Hycroft Happenings newsletter.
  • Room Rentals: Members can rent rooms at Hycroft for activities such as weddings, meetings, parties and special family or business events at member rates.
