Expect the Unexpected: A Surprising (?)
Life is full of surprises. Sometimes we make assumptions that turn out to be incorrect, and we are intrigued and (hopefully) illuminated by what we learn from these experiences. Join faculty from Langara College as we explore several topics, both historical and contemporary, perhaps discovering some unexpected things along the way.

Registration is open to members and their guests.

Members $5+tax (members must sign in to their account to receive the ticket discount);
Non-Members $10+tax

Speaker: Jessica Hemming, Department of Interdisciplinary Studies
Topic: Camelot: A Cautionary Tale of Unreal Estate
This lecture looks at the legendary Camelot, famed court of King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table. It traces the history of both the name and the idealized concept. In the course of this 800-year trail, we discover the names and locations of other courts associated with Arthur, assess the list of real-world sites that have been claimed to “be” Camelot, weigh the literary sources against historical and archaeological data, and witness the various transformations of Camelot between the 12th century and the 21st. There are some surprises—perhaps unexpected ones—along the way.

*This lecture will be held at Hycroft.
