Lunch and learn

This Lunch and Learn Program will feature acclaimed Travel writer, RICK ANTONSON, who will discuss his recent book, “WALKING WITH GHOSTS IN PAPUA NEW GUINEA.” In this book, Rick tackles his most challenging adventure yet: a formidable trail through the remote jungles of Papua New Guinea. The book brings to life a journey of mental endurance, blending fascinating historical context with the trials and tribulations of discoveries in faraway lands. Not to be missed. Everyone welcome.

Members and guests are most welcome.

Speaker conference at 10:30 am at the Drawing Room.
Lunch at 12:15 pm.

VCP Vancouver Guitar Duo

The Vancouver Chamber Players are excited to kick off 2020 with the arrival of the Vancouver Guitar Duo! Featuring an eclectic mix of fantastic original duo guitar arrangements, including Renaissance and Baroque lute works, Brazilian Sambas and Bossa Novas, and fiery Spanish dances, this is a concert that will set your heart soaring. Make sure to purchase your tickets well in advance!

Support of this series makes it possible for the Vancouver Chamber Players to obtain grants that pay for free concerts at care homes and senior residences.

HHPF Valentine’s Candlelight Dinner & Concert

Please join us for the third annual Valentine's Candlelight Dinner and Concert, presented by the Vancouver Chamber Players Society and the Hycroft Heritage Preservation Foundation.

International Award-Winning Performers Sunny Qu (pianist) & Carole Bertho (vocalist) will headline a memorable evening with a variety of classical and popular entertainment in the elegant Drawing Room at Hycroft. Sunny Qu is an outstanding pianist, performing as a soloist with distinguished symphonies across three continents, and winning numerous prestigious awards. Carole Bertho has been recognized for her beautiful intense singing since she was a student at the Paris Music Conservatory and the Musee National Conservatory in Montpellier, France.

Champagne Reception starts at 5:30 pm.
Concert at 6:30 pm.
3-Course Dinner at 7:30 pm.

Wicked Women and Mad Men Talks – Dr. Niall Christie

Talk Title: Shajar al-Durr: Scheming Sultana of Egypt

Niall Christie is a historian of medieval Islam and currently the chair of the Department of History, Latin and Political Science at Langara. He received his Ph.D. from the University of St Andrews in 2000, with a thesis on eastern responses to the crusades. His is the author of several articles and two books: Muslims and Crusaders: Christianity's Wars in the Middle East, 1095-1382, from the Islamic Sources, which is about to be published in its second edition; and The Book of the Jihad of 'Ali ibn Tahir al-Sulami (d. 1106): Text, Translation and Commentary (2015).

Hycroft Gallery Opening – March 2020

Members are cordially invited to the opening reception for Elizabeth Ross, a local photographer and image-maker who looks to communicate with the inherent and essential living presence of things. ‘Tree Poems’ is an ongoing series depicting the energetic mystery evoked by the powerful poetry of trees that allows dreaming. Intrigued and mystified by the transformative power of dance, Elizabeth collaborated with young artists and the idea of a visual narrative in the language of dance amplified into ‘Dream Dancing.’

CALLING ALL ARTISTS! If you are a member who is an artist, the Visual Arts Committee invites you to apply to exhibit in the Hycroft Gallery. The application is online on the UWCV web site under Events>Visual Arts at Hycroft or emails visarts@uwcvancouver.ca for more information
